Aubrey Cliffs, (Boquillas Ranch) Closing July 1st
I talked to Dave David Frechette this morning and he said he had gone to the Game and Fish meeting that was held in Prescott. They announced at the meeting that the gates to Boquillas Ranch will be locked on July 1st. This is due to the problems with hunters littering and driving off of the roads.

Dave asked if there had been any reports of hang glider pilots causing any problems and he was answered with "No, they have never received any complaints about hang gliders".

Dave ask if there was any way of getting a permit for hang gliding the Aubrey Cliffs and was told it might be possible in the future, but not right now. They ask that we do not call and ask right now. They are over whelmed with calls right now.

Dave will be following up with Game and Fish to see if a permit system can be established, but for now the Aubrey Cliffs will be closed as of July 1st.

Any of you who knows Dave knows how important this site is to him and he will be following up very diligently to find some kind of solution.

Once again, the actions of an irresponsible few impact the enjoyment of many. :ps39:

Sad yes. It gets worse.
The hunters with an Elk tag and money will be able to purchase an escort into the ranch to bag their trophy.

Which gives me hope that we can get some kind of a pay $pecial permit.
As much as I'm up there in the summer, I would be willing to purchase an annual flying permit.

Only time will tell.

yes towers are on ranch property, just barely. Probably be our best option to continue to fly there. Glad Dave is on top of this.

You can hardly go anywhere in this state without seeing the destruction of property by irresponsible hunters/ gun owners. They are taking away our "freedoms" ironic isn't it?

so if the towers are barely in, I assume the launch must be out. Its south of there by a few hundred yards at least. and its certainly not the most southerly launchable point. i think i prefer it over the north anyway.

Access to the south launch is controlled by the Ranch. After a little digging there is more to this closure than just a few unruly hunters. I was not aware of the complexity of this 700,000 acre tract of land. Money, control, elk and a possible wind farm is what it seems to be about.

It's a mess but can be worked out I hope.

Yes big mess, it has been festering for the last couple years. Its all about money. I have been looking on AZG&F website and so far I haven't seen anything released on this issue.
